QR code color checker
Compare your module and background colours, then test the exported code on a real phone before print.
Check foreground and background colours
QR scanners need a clear difference between dark and light modules. Contrast is a useful first check; always test the exported code on a real device.

Strong contrast
QRnook’s print checks treat 7:1 as strong, 3:1 as a warning threshold, and lower ratios as a serious risk. This is a heuristic; ink, material and lighting change the result.
Choosing colours for a QR code
- Contrast first
- Scanners look for a clear difference between dark and light modules. Dark on light with a ratio of 7:1 or more is the safest choice.
- Inverted codes
- Light modules on a dark background do not work in every scanner. Test them on the phones your audience uses.
- Brand colours
- Pick a dark brand colour for the modules and keep the background plain and light. Avoid gradients and low-contrast pastels.
